The race consists of a 3k or 10k course, beginning and ending at Coleman Beach in Morro Bay, CA. The event is sponsored by many local Central Coast merchants & organizations, as well as Jesse’s friends and family. All paddle craft are welcome- SUP, Kayak, OC-1, prone paddleboards, and outriggers. Participants will receive a race shirt, raffle ticket, and have access to pre and post-race drinks and snacks. Online registration closes on September 29th.

Prizes will be awarded to top male and female finishers for the following age groups:
17 and Under
18 – 45
45+

All participants shall be appropriately attired for their type of craft and prevalent weather/sea conditions, and must have a serviceable Coast Guard-approved personal flotation device available. Participants not properly attired or without a PFD shall not be allowed to participate.

This event is a celebration of Jesse King’s life, and love of the ocean. This paddle is meant to be a fun experience for all while acting as fundraiser for the Friends of the Morro Bay Harbor Department and Morro Bay Junior Guards.
Jesse King, a former U.S. Coast Guard Honor Guard and Machinery Technician 3rd class stationed in Morro Bay and a City of Morro Bay Lifeguard, passed away in a free diving accident off the coast of Cambria, CA on July 1, 2009. He was an expert waterman and a tremendous human being who was passionate about the ocean.

September is a transition month on the Central California coast so ocean and weather condition can vary. Participants should be prepared for side winds (offshore and or onshore), cool ocean temperatures (ranges from low to upper 50s), short duration wind swell and or large ground swells.
The Harbor Department event Safety Team reserves the exclusive right to cancel the event on the ocean course (Cayucos pier to Morro Bay) in the event of adverse weather and/or sea conditions if, in the professional opinion of the Safety Team, said conditions pose an undue risk to the participants, event organizers, or Safety Team. In such a case, the event will revert to the in-harbor course. If, in the exclusive opinion of the Safety Team, the weather and/or sea conditions of the in-harbor course pose similar undue risks, the entire paddle portion of the event will be canceled.
