The Grand Opening of the Morro Bay Marititme Museum will be celebrated September 29th through December 31st. During this time the Museum will be offering FREE admission every Saturday from 10am to 5pm through December 31st. Visitors will be invited to join in the celebration activities to experience and learn the history and share memories about our Central Coast maritime and military heritage.
Special events will highlight the 3-month Maritime grand opening celebration. MBMM intends to enhance existing community events with onsite maritime activities, including the Morro Bay Harbor Festival, Veteran’s Day Salutes and the Morro Bay Lighted Boat and Winter Celebrations.
Grand Opening Activities will include:
September 29, 10-12noon
Official Kick-off Opening Ceremony and Morro Bay Chamber of Commerce Ribbon Cutting will feature:
• a blessing of MBMM’s grounds by the Salinan Tribe;
• Official welcomes by California State representatives, SLO County Supervisors and Morro Bay City Council;
• Keynote: Dan Krieger, former Cal Poly History Professor and SLO Tribune Historical Columnist;
• Musical Entertainment, by Jenna & the Funky Fellows.
October 6 – At High Noon during Morro Bay’s Harbor Festival, the Grand Opening continues featuring a newly installed waterfront Weather Station provided to MBMM by PG&E plus an official launching of a large-sized Weather Balloon by PG&E’s weather professional and Tribune columnist also featured on American General Media’s KVEC John Lindsey.
October 20 – Grand Opening continues to celebrate Morro Bay’s Maritime Month when it’s a shout-out to all willing and interested paddle boarders – novice and experienced – to join The PaddleBoard Company of Morro Bay on an expanded MEET-UP ON MORRO BAY PADDLE TO MBMM & MORE. Details soon to follow.
November 11 – Grand Opening continues as MBMM celebrates our rich military history featuring a tribute to our Veterans. MBMM will partner with Kelsey See Canyon Vineyards and launch its 2nd in a special label Kelsey produced wine featuring the DSRV Avalon. Did you know U.S. combat troops were trained to storm the beaches of Normandy in Morro Bay? Stay tuned for a VERY special announcement for MBMM and our Maritime Museum supporters and visitors.
December 1 – 15 – Grand Opening continues to work side-by-side with Morro Bay Tourism to celebrate the holidays during the Morro Bay Lighted Boat Parade and Winter Celebration.
